The Toolbox is crucial for GIMP image manipulations. The Layers Dialog is also important when we are working on multiple layers & other dialogs come into play when needed. The following screen-shot shows the default windows arrangement.

It all depend on individual taste, I personal don’t like the default windows arrangement. To me, the space is quite congested, little room for the Image Window. In fact, we can group the Toolbox & Dialogs into one. This can be done simply by dragging all the dialogs & drop into the Toolbox Window until the dialogs is empty. This will then makes our workspace bigger, giving more space for Image Window.

Workspace Example
See the following screen-shot after the rearrangement. Apparently, you have more space now for your image. To switch between dialogs, click the tab inside the Toolbox Window.

Perhaps, you want the arrangement look similar to Photoshop. Resize the Toolbox, make it thinner & dock it to the left. Place the Image Window in the middle & Dialog Window to the right. The following screen-shot shows one of the possible windows arrangements.
